ESL has announced their partnership with the West Coast Conference (WCC) for fall 2019 at ESL Collegiate.
The West Coast Conference will join the BIG EAST Conference as the newest partner to join the currently expanding ESL Collegiate network.
ESL North America CEO, Yvette Martinez explained the importance of developing the higher education sector for esports.
“Collegiate esports is an important part of the esports ecosystem. Through the addition of the West Coast Conference, we are growing the esports community on campuses across the country and providing more opportunities for everyone to get involved in esports. ” he said.
Until December 8th, participating WCC schools will join the ESL Collegiate 2019 Pre-season Invitational to compete in the League of Legends.
The collegiate conference will host weekly matches offline, with the playoffs and prospective finals broadcast live on Twitch as well as YouTube.
Prior to the introduction of the WCC, ESL had also teamed up with the Big Ten Network in an effort to release the BTN League of Legends season. In October, ESL also found the first sponsor of the ESL Collegiate initiative in Grubhub’s food delivery service.
With this much help, ESL hopes to provide an opportunity to involve the esports community of students at each participating campus through the competitions held.
