Almost failing to qualify for The International 2016, Fnatic was able to secure a place for them to compete in one of Dota 2’s biggest annual events. They qualified after defeating Execration 3-1 in the Grand Final round in the double-elimination bracket phase.
Execration did not lose empty-handed, but their status as runners-up in the Grand Final, giving them one last chance by advancing to the Wild Card phase at TI6, where they will fight three other Wild Card winners for 2 places in the main event.
Fnatic’s journey to the Grand Final of the playoffs was smooth, they managed to wipe 2 matches without defeat against White Fries Gaming and WG.Unity. Meanwhile, against Execration they were forced to play 4 matches with a final score of 3-1.
Fnatic is one of the strongest teams in the SEA region along with MVP Phoenix, where they have always participated in every Valve tournament since TI5. Despite finishing in the Top 6 of the Manila Major, Fnatic did not receive any of the six direct invitations to TI6, the only SEA team that was directly invited was the MVP.
